Apple iPad tablet and the other is causing losses to the global PC market, according to Gartner.

Gartner, on 29/11, has a traditional forecasts of PC shipments in 2011 will be reduced, mainly by the increase of the tablet, like the iPad.
Gartner predicts 352.4 million PCs will ship this year, up 14.3% compared to 2009. Previously, the company had expected PC shipments in 2010 of 17.9%.

"In the long term, the versatile tablet PC is expected to take approximately 10% of the PC in 2014."

Another analyst at Gartner, George Shiffler, said that the PC will still be needed for business, but sales will continue to go down - and not just because of competition with the tablet.

Along with the economy still uncertain, consumers and businesses are still hesitant to spend. Difficult to find employment and economic prospects are bleak that tighten the purse strings, Gartner said.

And with limited funds for computer equipment, consumers and businesses prefer to switch to alternatives such as mobile computers or smartphones table rather than the traditional PC.

"Growth of the PC market will be affected by the devices allow better handling of content in the mobile environment, such as computers and multi-table next-generation smartphones," analysts Gartner, Raphael Vasquez said.

"These devices will be increasingly accepted as a supplement, if not replace the PC in the processing of voice and data slightly. Like the desktop PC and will be detrimental in the long term by adopting the virtual desktop - the machine can easily use other devices such as workstations shortened, "he added.
